ST. PATRICK'S DAY inspires memories of Saint Patrick, fun celebrations, and all things green and Irish.
St. Patrick's Day And My Heritage
For me, a second generation Polish American, it reminds me of so many of my relatives who are Irish.
It seems that the Polish and the Irish are very compatible. I married an O'Donnell and my sister married a Patrick. My aunts married Ryans and Meehans, while my cousins married Kearns and Callahans.
The Poles and the Irish have many similarities. These start back in Poland and Ireland with similar economic and political struggles which brought many to the United States. The Poles and Irish share mannerisms of strong work ethic, candor, and devotion to family. Both are Catholic. And, both the Poles and the Irish appreciate a good story or a witty joke.
Whether you're eating corned beef and cabbage or kielbasa and kapusta, remembering St. Patrick or Pope John Paul II, you're sure to have a great time when you're sitting at the table with the Poles and the Irish.
Happy St. Patrick's Day!
So here's to all the Seans, Therons, Megans, Kathleens and Kevins in my family and everywhere.
On St. Patrick's Day, we're all Irish! Happy St. Patrick's Day!
